Two and a half years ago, I had scoliosis spine corrective surgery. So I made my Sussex debut the day before my operation, got pulled off the pitch five minutes before the end and went straight up to the Royal Hospital of Orthopaedics and had a nine hour surgery on my spine where I was out for a year.
But, the determination I got from that, I was watching my teammates, you know, three weeks after I could barely stand, I went to watch Hove V Horsham and just seeing my friends play the sport that I love, that they love as well, helped me through one of the toughest and most painful times that I’ve faced. But also most recently playing for Ireland under-18s, being the only English person that actually played, you know, going, doing my flights by myself, accommodation by myself, meeting new people by myself.
So, I had to really step up and face these challenges and everything by myself. But I never felt alone because I always knew that I had my family and teammates from home beside me. And that was the best support I could have had.
